HUR, Jung-Eun, who was selected as the fourth artist for Ceramic Rookie, is giving life to the exhibition with her porcelain pieces which were like brushed landscapes. The artist is working in the manner to combine the images collected through ordinary experiences or memories. This is a visualization work of converting individual images into image ideality through repetition and combination. Ideality – Collected Images exhibition is an exhibition that shows such work results and is composed of 11 works: 8 wall installation works and 3 space installations.

The artist¡¯s works start from making a unit. First, she pushes the clay to make a plate and then cuts out simple and natural patterns of plants which are reminiscent of tree or floral leaves. This is the way that natural hand movements determine patterns rather than trying to obtain intended patterns. A numerous number of units in the form of organic plants obtained in this way are the basic materials for her works. The overlapping and arrangement of units sometimes constitute one work, but the artist takes her attitude to combine the units of tree or floral leaves on the architectural elements such as houses, windows, and arcade – mostly the images collected from ordinary landscapes. The artist, who uses white porcelain soil works primarily on color composition to express overall pure-white refined feelings, but partially uses the harmonious colors with low chroma. Such colors are naturally in harmony without any one of them being in excess to deliver the pureness with refined colors.

The form of ¡®House¡¯ which has most frequently been appeared as the major topic in her recent works, functions as place, a symbolic space that combines individual experiences and memories going beyond the simple physical space where people live. Untitled 2 is a work with doors manufactured in her unique way in addition to the form of a universal house that anyone can remember most easily. The door filled with collected ordinary images is slightly opened. It is an installation which is made to induce various imaginations of a viewer as if viewer¡¯s eye were guided into the inside of the house. Collected Images is a work that fills 9m©÷ of four square sides with more than 300 palm-sized porcelain objets. Objets of 10cm or so are jammed in arrangement on the transparent acrylic shelf. That the fragments of things commonly observed in our ordinary live are visualized into ideal image through the artist¡¯s sense and sensibility is the substance of this work.
Ideality – Collected Images exhibition shows her process of making ideal images by collecting, combining, and overlapping the materials which were unconsciously overlooked in our repetitive daily lives which change rapidly as if we were running the rat race. This will provide modern people who are tired with ordinary routine lives with the opportunities to stimulate the fantasy and dream in our inner side and heal our psychological mind.

Life moments that we are living are the complex of individual emotions and experiences that continuously circulate. I am making a new space through the process of containing and accumulating images as if there were fragments obtained from all of my ordinary relationships.

I aim to combine new memories between individual meditation and space. The world beyond the space surrounded by plants is the zone of unrestricted feelings crossing the present and the past, reality and unreality. I dream of fantasy beyond our reality by combining daily routine emotions.
