Imaginary People

Hybrid forms - I worked with compound forms human body and organic lines in abstract and sensuous way. When I depict the form of the human body and organic lines, I am use it both metaphorically and directly. The forms give the work both concrete and abstract feeling and deals with the ambivalence of realistic and unrealistic form and space at the same time. The work juxtaposes realistic forms and surrealistic forms which exist beyond time and reality, so to speak. I tried to convey a strong visual impression through hybrid forms. These human form and organic lines represented an expansive world with the viewer able to experience the future, the present, and the past at the same time in the same space.

Artist Statement

In my work, I usually search for beautiful lines in natural spaces for inspiration for my work. When seeing the objects in natural spaces, most people usually perceive them as ordinary forms. However, I have tried to avoid such typical perception about objects. Instead I try to find beautiful lines hidden in natural spaces. In order to do this, I encourage myself to see the hidden, pure, natural objects; I have been keenly observant of inspiration in nature, whether it be human, animal, plant, sky, or cloud.  After I take inspiration from the concrete existence of pure nature through my artistic intuition and sense, I express it both metaphorically and directly. I express real form and surreal forms that look like dreams of the future, so my work juxtaposes realistic forms and fantastic forms which exist beyond time and reality. Consequently, my work is associated with the following: line, nature, purity, ceramics sculpture, the human body, surrealism, life, plants, white, various forms, slip- casting process, and installation format. These words together with ceramics form a bridge between my work and myself.
